Open-Ear
Open-Ear hearing aid model is for early, and mild to moderate hearing loss.
  • thin tubing (shown at left) brings sound to the ear
  • leaves the ear open and unplugged
  • natural sound quality
  • barely noticeable
  • prone to damage from perspiration
We build the Open-Ear hearing aid model in our own laboratory.

Completely-in-Canal (CIC)
Completely-in-Canal hearing aid model is for moderate to severe hearing loss.
  • odd shape and small size of some ear canals may limit its use
  • a thin 'antenna' (shown at left) is used to remove the aid from the ear canal
  • very little wind noise
  • prone to damage from ear wax

In-the-Canal (ITC)
In-the-Canal hearing aid model is for mild to moderately severe hearing loss
  • volume control wheel is small
  • less wind noise
  • prone to damage from ear wax

In-the-Ear (ITE)
In-the-Ear hearing aid model is for mild to severe hearing loss
  • larger battery for more power and longer life
  • room for accessories like telephone pick-up and directional microphones
  • larger volume wheel for easier adjustments
  • prone to damage from ear wax

Behind-The-Ear (BTE)
Behind-the-Ear hearing aid model is for mild to severe hearing loss
  • larger battery for more power and longer life
  • larger volume control for easier adjustments
  • room for accessories like directional microphones and switches
  • prone to damage from perspiration
