Understanding some TV dialogs is difficult even for normal hearing people. But, when you
have a hearing loss you almost certainly will turn-up the TV volume beyond the comfort level of
everyone else in the house. I recommend and demonstrate the following devices:
Activate Closed Captioning/Subtitles
Most televisions have the ability to display a text of the TV dialog at the bottom of the screen.
Wireless Speakers
Hook-up wireless speakers and place them next to your
chair. The closer the speakers are to you the clearer you will hear! Surround sound is
absolutely the worst alternative since it drowns out the TV dialog instead of enhancing it.
Wireless Earphones
Wireless earphones give the clearest TV reception.
The transmitting unit whether it is an infrared or FM transmitter is connected to the TV and
then broadcasts the sound directly to the earphones and into your ear. Because you control the volume on your earphones, the TV sound can be at its normal loudness
for everyone else in the room. In fact, everyone in the family could have his/her own earphone receiver.
