Tinnitus is defined as head or ear noises that are perceivable only to the patient. These noises are different for everyone, and can range from ringing in the ears to crickets to water running. Over 50 million Americans experience some form of tinnitus. Although tinnitus is not a disease, it can be a symptom of other underlying causes. Currently, there is typically no cure for tinnitus, however there are treatment options to patients experiencing these symptoms.
