What are Caption Telephones?

If you or someone you know has trouble hearing on the telephone, it may be time to consider a caption telephone. Caption telephones can be a great addition to the household for people with hearing loss. Companies like CaptionCall and CapTel offer these telephones to let people with hearing loss read the speech that they are hearing from the phone’s display screen. This feature can help ease any stress or tension that comes with difficulty communicating over the phone. Whether communicating with loved ones or making a future doctor appointment, this special technology will give the person with hearing loss more independence when using the telephone!

Caption telephones work similarly to regular landline or mobile phones, but come with real-time captioning! The captioning works by having real-time human captioning or computerized voice recognition technology that displays a written version of the speech that the listener hears. CaptionCall and Captel are constantly improving their technology to make caption telephone use as easy and convenient as possible. Caption telephones now come in several styles, including traditional, touch-screen, and ones with extra-large font for users with low vision.

CaptionCall and Captel offer their caption-equipped telephone at no cost, as well as complimentary installation and training on its use! What is required is a telephone service, high-speed internet, and standard electrical power.
